Bearberry or kinnikinnick has fragrant evergreen leaves that progress from a lemony green hue in spring to a reddish purple in fall. It bears pink flowers and bright red berries along woody stems. Salt and wind tolerant, this prostrate groundcover is ideal for soils that are nutrient-poor, acidic, rocky or sandy and have limited water input. It can be used to replace lawns in such landscapes.
