Vicia faba From Snake River Seeds: "Fava beans were originally grown in North Africa and have since been grown around the Mediterranean region for thousands of years. They are delightful fresh! Needs cool weather to produce successfully so planting in late winter/early spring is very important. Harvest for fresh eating when the pods are large and shiny. It's better to harvest them a little young, as they will toughen up with maturity. (You're in good company, favas!) According to plant breeder William Schlegel, the parent varieties are Frog Island Nation, Joseph Lofthouse's Landrace Fava, Ianto's Return, and Windsor Fava Beans."
