Cauliflower, Veronica Romanesco

Brassica Oleracea

This "Italian" type produces very symmetrical and spiraled, lime green heads with tightly beaded, pointed domes. Useful raw, cooked, or pickled, with a milder, sweeter flavor than standard cauliflower. Holds its vibrant color even when cooked. Excellent heat tolerance.

The germination rate for this batch of seeds tested at 72%. I recommend sowing a few additional seeds, which are included in each pack. 1 sf pack ~20 (instead of 12)

When to plant: Start indoors February–March; transplant April–May.

How to plant: Start seeds indoors, then transplant.

Seed depth: ¼ inch Spacing: 18–24 inches

Notes: Thrives in cool PNW weather and improves in flavor after light frost.

    🌱 Planting Coverage Options

Planting coverage refers to the amount of seed needed to reliably plant a given area under typical Pacific Northwest conditions.

    • 1 sq ft coverage = enough seed to plant approximately one square foot
    • 5 sq ft coverage = enough seed to plant approximately five square feet

Coverage is based on recommended spacing, expected germination, and normal thinning, not exact seed counts and not final plant size.

For some crops (especially tomatoes, squash, and other large plants), seeds are intended to be started in pots and later transplanted. In those cases, coverage reflects the number of starts most gardeners need, rather than the space mature plants will occupy.
