Steve Solomon developed his Complete Organic Fertilizer recipe specifically for Pacific Northwest soils, which lose nutrients to our wet winters in ways that drier-climate soils don't. This blend from Concentrates Inc. — a Portland company since 1938 — is based on the same principles, with a full complement of trace minerals and mycorrhizal fungi that make it as good or better than mixing your own.

How to use: 4–5 lbs per 100 square feet worked into the top few inches before planting. Side-dress during the season if plants show nitrogen deficiency. For potatoes, use a lighter hand at planting — excess nitrogen early in the season favors foliage over tubers.
